Barbershop Chorus
Who are we? PGS
Barbershoppers aren't professional singers. We're men of all ages, high school to
retirees, from all walks of life, who love to sing, and live to learn to
sing better.
As a chorus, we all leave behind our jobs as
salesmen, skilled laborers, teachers, technicians, doctors, etc., if
just for a few hours a week, to enjoy the brotherhood, camaraderie, and mission
of preserving this great American art form.
We enjoy learning.
Our weekly rehearsals are more like extended group vocal training
sessions. Experience with reading music, playing an instrument, or
public singing (while it helps), is NOT a requirement to enjoy the
benefits of our organization. In addition to sheet music, we
provide a CD learning tape specifically teaching you your part, without
the need to read music.
We enjoy performing.
Our style is
flexible, allowing smaller or larger groups to perform for various size
audiences. Our performances typically include:
Performances for Hospitals, Adult Communities, and
Churches, Business, and Community Events
Many members also perform as part of quartets, either formally or informally.
It's an activity we strongly encourage and support
We even enjoy competing.
Believe it or not, this can
also be considered sport. As members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, we regularly compete (and occasionally win)
competitions of of local and regional choruses. In fact, we are the
current Intermediate Champions of our regional division.
